Trumpets were sounded during the farewell of the Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) Arco Ardjuna at the Central Plant Platform of Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) Offshore West North Java (ONWJ) off the northern coast of West Java on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Arco Ardjuna, which operated for more than 50 years from 1972 to 2024, was the first oil storage facility in Indonesia and played a crucial role in the country’s oil and gas industry. It made a significant contribution by storing and distributing approximately 1.28 billion barrels of crude oil, with 4,350 oil liftings from the ONWJ block. The retirement of FSO Arco Ardjuna in 2024 represents a milestone that needs to be documented and publicized. FSO Arco Ardjuna has been the oil storage facility for PHE ONWJ since 1972. Due to safety requirements and standards, it will be retired in August 2024 after more than five decades of operation. It was the first FSO in Indonesia and the oldest still in operation worldwide.
