Indonesian state gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) is exploring a potential natural gas supply deal with gold miner PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals (NHM) for the Gosowong gold mine in North Halmahera, North Maluku, the company said on Friday.
The two firms have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and launched a joint study to assess the technical and commercial feasibility of supplying gas to the site, including infrastructure readiness and gas availability.
PGN’s Director of Strategy and Business Development, Rosa Permata Sari, said the supply initiative is part of PGN’s broader strategy to expand its market presence in central and eastern Indonesia.

“PGN’s supply of natural gas is aimed at increasing operational efficiency for NHM,” she said in a statement.
The gas supply, if realized, could encourage broader regional adoption of natural gas, support cleaner energy use, and stimulate local economic growth, PGN said.
The company also emphasized that natural gas, as the cleanest fossil fuel, could help NHM reduce emissions and improve environmental performance.
NHM expects that the potential gas supply will support increased mine output and strengthen the domestic energy value chain.
