Zhejiang Weiming Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. has launched trial production for the second production line at its Jiaman nickel matte smelter in Indonesia, the company confirmed during a recent investor call.
“The first 10,000-ton-per-year oxygen-rich side-blown line at the Jiaman project in Indonesia entered equipment commissioning in Q4 2024 and is operating stably. It successfully produced high-grade nickel matte, with a second line set for trial production,” said Peng Cheng, Weiming’s Board Secretary.

The Jiaman smelter, located at the Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) in North Maluku, is Weiming’s most advanced overseas project and part of a broader investment into Indonesia’s nickel supply chain. The facility is operated by PT Jiaman New Energy, a joint venture between Weiming and Merit International Capital Limited, and is designed for an annual output of 40,000 tons of nickel.
Weiming has invested over US$292 million into the Jiaman project as of late 2024, with a total project budget of US$356.3 million fully funded from internal sources. The nickel matte produced from Jiaman is intended to supply Weiming’s downstream battery materials facility in Wenzhou, China, as part of a vertically integrated strategy linking Indonesian smelting with Chinese refining.
The Jiaman project is one of three separate nickel ventures Weiming is developing in Indonesia, with a combined target capacity of 130,000 tons of nickel metal per year.
