PT Trifita Deto Muara Badak (TDMB), a subsidiary of explosives supplier PT Trifita Perkasa, has officially commenced commercial operations of its detonator manufacturing plant in Muara Badak, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan. The plant was inaugurated on February 12, 2025.
The new TDMB plant has an initial production capacity of 4.1 million detonators per year, including 3 million non-electric detonators and 1.1 million electronic detonators. The facility has the potential to expand its output to 6 million detonators annually.
TDMB’s technology is supported by Orica, an Australian-based global leader in explosives manufacturing and mining services.

TDMB’s President Director, Hery Kusnanto, who also serves as President Director of Trifita Perkasa, emphasized that the new plant will reduce Indonesia’s reliance on imported detonators, which have historically been sourced from Australia, China, South Korea, and the Philippines. While some raw materials, such as explosive components, are still imported from Australia, India, and Canada, TDMB has begun integrating local materials for supporting components, aiming to increase the plant’s domestic content.
The 25-hectare facility was developed following a recommendation from the Ministry of Defense in 2019, with construction permits issued in 2021.
