Upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas reported Friday that a surface blowout incident with mud as output occurred on Thursday at the Kaliberau Dalam-2X exploration well in Sakakemang block, South Sumatra Province.
SKK Migas said in a statement that Talisman Sakakemang B.V., the block?s operator, managed to immediately control the blowout incident, and the well is now in safe condition.
The upstream regulator said that the Kaliberau Dalam-2X well located in Tampang Baru Village, Baru Bayung Lencir District, Musi Banyuasin Regency, was spudded on August 20 for exploration drilling targeting the Talang Akar Formation and basement rocks at a depth starting from 1,935 meters to reach a total depth of 2,700 meters.
?On September 13 at 10 a.m., a mud blowout incident occurred reaching the drilling floor surface. The surface blowout was believed to have come from a depth of 1,910 meters. The mud blowout cold be controlled immediately at the time by capping the blowout control equipment installed at the drilling platform,? SKK Migas said.
?By applying work safety procedure in oil and gas operations, the well condition currently can be considered as safe and controlled,? it added.
SKK Migas said that surface blowout is a normal incident during oil and gas exploration drilling activities in areas with good potential reservoirs. This kind of incident has been anticipated during planning stage of the exploration drilling program.
SKK Migas said that Talisman is now proceeding to prove the hydrocarbon potential in the Kaliberau Dalam-2X well.
Talisman Sakakemang B.V is the operator of Sakakemang PSC with 90 percent interest, and Cakra Nusa Darma (SKKMG) Ltd holds the remaining 10 percent.
This portal reported on Friday, quoting SKK Migas Public Relations Head Wisnu Prabawa Tahar that Talisman plans to carry out exploration drilling at Kaliberau Dalam-3X well in the first quarter of next year.
