Geothermal power developer PT Supreme Energy Rantau Dedap (SERD) plans to start drilling the first well at the Rantau Dedap geothermal power plant project in South Sumatra Province at the end of July, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.
?The first drilling at Rantau Dedap (is scheduled) at the end of July,? said Prijandaru Effendi, Vice President for Relations and SHE at PT Supreme Energy, co-owner of SERD. Other shareholders of SERD are Marubeni Corp, ENGIE SA, and Tohoku Electric Power Co.
He said that SERD plans to drill a total of 12 geothermal wells at Rantau Dedap, comprising of 11 production wells and 1 injection well, which entirely are expected to be concluded in 2020 at an estimated investment of US$85 million. For this year, the company plans to drill 4-5 wells, he added.
As has been previously reported, SERD had in March of this year concluded financial close with lenders for the proposed 98.4 MW geothermal power plant project in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province. The estimated $540 million power plant project is targeted to start commercial operation in 2020, of which the electricity output will be sold to state-owned electricity firm PT PLN under a 30-year power purchase agreement.
