Star Energy, a London-based oil and gas firm, will boost exploration activities at Kakap block in Natuna Sea whose production tends to decline due to aging fields.
Production at present stands at around 4,000 barrels of oil per day and 43 mmscfd of gas. ?Kakap is a mature field as it was found since 1985,? said Yudi Pringadi, Manager of External Relations, on Tuesday as reported by Kontan.
Star Energy will start exploration drilling activities early next year, focusing on the northern part of the block. Yudi did not elaborate, just saying that the company was in the preparation to submit the 2013 Work Plan and Budget to the upstream authority BPMIGAS.
The company sells the oil and gas output from the block to Singapore. Star Energy also operates Sebatik block in East Kalimantan and Sekayu block in South Sumatra.(*)
