Riau to ask East Kalimantan, Irian Jaya to stop oil production to pressure Jakarta

Riau will ask East Kalimantan and Irian Jaya to prepare a joint blockade in their oil production and transportation if the central government doesn't immediately implement the new law on autonomy and law on fiscal balances between the regional and central government, according to head of the local parliament Sudarman Ade.

Sudarman said that he's planning to invite legislators from East Kalimantan and Irian Jaya soon to discuss the issue.

"The invitation is meant to unite vision, mission and perception of the three provinces with the largest oil and gas production," he said.

The new autonomy law and fiscal balance law would provide greater room for local government to manage their own resources and greater revenue from the resources.(*)
