Spanish energy firm Repsol SA has set a schedule to start the drilling of a re-entry well in Sakakemang block in South Sumatra Province, early this month, according to an official at upstream authority SKK Migas.
“For Sakakemang, they (Repsol) will drill a re-entry well. The rig is already available on site and is targeted to be ready for drilling in early August," Spokesperson of SKK Migas Susana Kurniasih told Petromindo.com, Thursday.
Susana said that after the re-entry well drilling is completed, the company will move ahead to drill an exploration well, called Kali Berau Dalam III (KBD-3x), scheduled to start in November 2020.
Repsol announced in February 2019 new gas discovery of about 2 trillion cubic feet (tcf) at the Sakakemang block, which was dubbed by SKK Migas as giant discovery. The company, however, said that it needs to carry out another drilling to confirm the discovery.

In November 2019, SKK Migas said Repsol SA has proposed the plan of development (POD) for Sakakemang block, with lower certified gas reserves of 1 tcf, compared to the earlier announcement of 2 tcf.
The Head of SKK Migas Dwi Soetjipto said earlier that the lower certified gas reserves was done intentionally in order to speed up of the development of the Sakakemang block.
The Sakakemang block is operated by Talisman Sakakemang B.V., which holds a 45 percent interest, while Malaysia’s Petronas holds another 45 percent interest, and Mitsui Oil Exploration Co. Ltd holds the remaining 10 percent interest. Repsol acquired Talisman in 2015.
