Spanish energy and petrochemical company Repsol plans to execute the final investment decision (FID) for Sakakemang block in 2022 as the company expects full gas production in 2027.

Repsol also plans to develop carbon capture storage (CCS) in Sakakemang where the block is known to have 26 percent of CO2 content. "We talk about 2 TCF recoverable reserves/resource at this point and 26 percent of CO2 for Sakakemang. And the CCS project in Sakakemang is intended to store 2 million tons per year of CO2 or cumulatively 30 million tons for entire project life of 15 years," Erquiaga further explained.
Erquiaga also said that CCS is the only solution for tertiary plays in Indonesia because those plays are very high in CO2 content.
Repsol holds a 45 percent interest in the Sakakemang block, while Malaysia’s Petronas holds another 45 percent interest, and Mitsui Oil Exploration Co. Ltd holds the remaining 10 percent interest.
