State electricity company PT PLN signed Wednesday (19/4) a Memorandum of Understanding with International Energy Agency (IEA) to evaluate Indonesia's just energy transition partnership investment policy plan (JETP IPP) in accelerating energy transition plan.
In 2030, carbon emission from PLN's managed power sector will reach 433 million tons according to business as usual scenario. According to the 2021-2023 JETP, CO2 emission should be curbed to 335 million tons.
"PLN and IEA will pioneer the formulation of energy transition roadmap through collaborations, comprehensive evaluation and consolidation in every step from upstream to downstream," PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said optimistically in a press release.

Established in the aftermath of 1973 oil crisis, IEA is a Paris-based autonomous intergovernmental organization that provides policy recommendations, analysis and data on the entire global energy sector to ensure no more energy discrepancy. The 31 member countries and 11 association countries of the IEA, in which Indonesia is excluded, represent 75% of global energy demand.
"We fully support Indonesia's energy transition project," IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said during the MoU signing in Paris, France.
Both parties plan to consolidate Indonesia's current net zero emission roadmap, as well as polishing up RI's JETP scheme while looking for possible investment opportunities to fund the country's energy transition projects, including renewable power plants, green energy enabling transmission line and human resource training.
