State-owned electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) has inaugurated the operations of the country’s first hydrogen refueling station (HRS), located in Senayan, South Jakarta.
The inauguration ceremony took place on Wednesday, led by Darmawan Prasodjo, President Director of PLN.
"The development of this green hydrogen supply chain also strengthens national energy resilience. It means transitioning from fossil-based fuels, which are mostly imported, to domestically produced green hydrogen," Darmawan said.
The hydrogen feedstock is supplied from PLN's green hydrogen production facility at the PLTGU Priok Unit 3–4 combined-cycle power plant. PLN is now also considering building a new green hydrogen production facility within the Senayan HRS complex.

The Senayan HRS became a pioneer in the hydrogen supply chain for hydrogen-based vehicles to achieve decarbonization of the transportation sector in the country.
According to PLN's calculations, the cost of green hydrogen fuel produced from the operational residue of power plants is highly competitive compared to traditional fossil fuels. Per kilometer, a gasoline car costs Rp1,400, an electric car costs Rp370, and a hydrogen car only costs Rp350.
Operated by PLN's subsidiary, PT PLN Indonesia Power (PLN IP), Senayan HRS is equipped with a 350-bar engine, a zero-carbon generator, and the Hydrogen Center as the first hydrogen training center in Indonesia.
In addition, PLN also inaugurated the operation of the first geothermal-based hydrogen production facility in the Kamojang geothermal complex, with a capacity of 4.38 tons per annum.
