PGE to start construction of PLTP Lumut Balai unit 2 next year

Geothermal power producer PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE) plans to start construction of the 55 MW PLTP Lumut Balai unit 2 geothermal power plant in Muara Enim, South Sumatra Province, next year. 

PGE President Director Ali Mundakir said on Thursday that tender to select contractor for the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) will be held next year.

He said that the PLTP Lumut Balai unit 2 is targeted to start commercial operation in 2022.  PGE started operation of the PLTP Lumut Balai unit 1 (also 55 MW) in September of this year. EPC contractor for the PLTP Lumut Balai unit 1 was a consortium of Marubeni Corp and PT Wijaya Karya.

PGE plans to develop a total of 220 MW geothermal power plants at the Lumut Balai geothermal working area.
