Nickel miner PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (IDX: INCO) has partnered with mining contractor PT Petrosea Tbk (Petrosea) (IDX: PTRO) to accelerate the development of the Pomalaa Block nickel mine in Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi. The two companies marked the start of construction activities with a ceremonial "First Cut" on October 4, 2024, at the Pomalaa Integrated Mine Project (IMP) site.

This event, which involved the initial excavation, signals the beginning of major construction work for the project. Vale’s Head of the Pomalaa Project, Mohammad Rifai, stated that the project remains on schedule with plans to begin operations by 2026.
Petrosea, under an agreement signed with Vale in July 2024, is responsible for executing mining operations at the Pomalaa Block. Petrosea’s Operational Manager, Lucky Hidayat, outlined that work will initially cover 10 key areas, with further development based on project progress.
