PEMA Aceh Carbon (PAC), a joint venture between Carbon Aceh and PT Pembangunan Aceh (PEMA), is set to complete its feasibility study (FS) for the development of a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facility at the depleted Arun gas field in Aceh by May 2025. PEMA is a company owned by the Aceh provincial government.
"The feasibility study will be completed, Insha Allah, in early May, and Carbon Aceh will continue its commitment with PEMA and the Aceh government to develop this as a CCS hub," said Sammy Hamzah, Commissioner of PAC, to Petromindo.com on Thursday (April 24).

As previously reported by Petromindo.com, Carbon Aceh has been conducting the FS at the Arun field since the end of 2023, with an 18-month duration target.
The Arun CCS project is expected to become operational by 2029 and could be the first commercial CCS business in Asia offering open-access CO2 storage, according to Carbon Aceh’s statement last year. Preliminary studies by Carbon Aceh suggest that Arun has the potential to sequester over 1,000 million metric tonnes of CO2, nearly three times Australia’s annual CO2 emissions, positioning it as one of the largest CCS projects globally.
