Aceh-based coal mining company PT Mifa Bersaudara said that it is looking to convert coal to methanol at its coal mine site.
"We plan to develop a coal downstream project, which is coal to methanol. Currently, we are still conducting a feasibility study on this," said Slamet Haryadi, Commissioner of Mifa Bersaudara, at the 2023 Indonesia Coal Outlook Conference on Wednesday.

The company operates a coal mine in Aceh Barat Regency with coal reserves estimated at 210 million tonnes, and resources at 383 million tonnes. The company produces low rank coal with a calorific value of 3,400 kcal/kg GAR.
It started coal exports in 2015. The company’s export markets are India, Vietnam, and China, while its domestic customer is a cement plant in Aceh owned by PT Semen Indonesia.
