Medco E&P Natuna successfully completed the sailaway of the Wellhead Platform-L (WHP-L) topside on April 3, marking a significant milestone in the development of the offshore Terubuk Field in the South Natuna Sea.
Djoko Siswanto, Head of the upstream oil and gas authority SKK Migas, explained that the sailaway process for the WHP-L topside was carried out by PT Timas Suplindo. The company was responsible for the load-out and transportation of the structure to its offshore location. The process involved moving the platform using a Self-Propelled Modular Transporter (SPMT) onto a barge, which then transported it to the installation site.

“The Terubuk Field is expected to add between 4,000 to 6,500 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) to production,” Djoko said, according to ruangenergi.com.
The WHP-L is one of two platforms being developed as part of the Terubuk Project, with the second platform, WHP-M, also under development. The WHP-L is scheduled to begin production in June 2025, followed by WHP-M in October 2025. The two platforms are expected to collectively produce 60 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd) and 6,654 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) from the field’s wells.
Medco made a significant oil and gas discovery in the Terubuk-5 delineation well in 2020, which triggered the ongoing development of the field. Medco E&P Natuna Ltd holds a 40% operating interest in the South Natuna Sea Block B (SNSB), with Medco Daya Abadi Lestari holding 35% and Prime Natuna Inc holding 25%.
