PT Kanz Sapta Energi, a subsidiary of Muara Energi, officially began commercial operation of its Kanzy 3 Mini-Hydro Power Plant (PLTM) in Bengkulu Tengah Regency following the signing of an agreement with state-owned electricity firm PT PLN on Thursday.
The agreement, signed by PLN’s General Manager Adhi Herlambang and PT Kanz Sapta Energi’s President Director Hery Candra Halim, formalizes the collaboration to distribute electricity generated by the 5 MW plant to the grid, supplying around 20,000 households.
“Through collaboration with PLN, we aim to ensure renewable energy from mini-hydro sources reaches the community effectively, supporting the national transition to clean energy,” said Billy Tjandra, Commissioner of Muara Energi.

The Kanzy 3 plant harnesses the flow of the Simpang Aur River and began commercial operation on May 16, after completing all testing and certification phases. It is expected to generate about 30 million kWh annually, contributing to carbon emissions reduction by thousands of tons per year.
The project aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s agenda to accelerate the green energy transition and bolster national development through renewable energy sources.
Mini-hydro technology used in Kanzy 3 avoids large dam construction, minimizing environmental impact while providing stable electricity, especially in remote areas.
Kanz Sapta Energi is also pursuing other renewable energy projects, including gas turbines and geothermal, as part of its strategy to diversify sustainable energy sources suited to Indonesia’s geography, Billy said
