State-owned gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) announced Wednesday that natural gas distribution has returned to normal in parts of West Java, following last week’s emergency triggered by a sudden drop in supply. The company continues to monitor conditions in Sumatra, where some areas were also affected.
PGN reported that gas pressure in its pipeline network has stabilized, allowing industrial customers in several parts of West Java to resume operations after experiencing disruptions due to supply constraints from upstream contractors.
“Alhamdulillah, we are grateful for the support provided by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, SKK Migas, PT Pertamina (Persero), and all stakeholders,” said PGN Corporate Secretary Fajriyah Usman in a statement. “The additional gas supply has helped improve infrastructure reliability. Distribution to customers will be carried out continuously.”
The company had declared “Emergency Level I” on August 15, after an unexpected shutdown among upstream gas suppliers disrupted distribution in West Java and parts of Sumatra. PGN responded by activating its crisis center, forming a special task force, and implementing emergency protocols across its operations.

While recovery in West Java has progressed, PGN said its board of directors is actively monitoring developments in West Java and parts of Sumatra through its Integrated Monitoring Center in Jakarta. However, the company did not confirm whether conditions in Sumatra have fully returned to normal.
“PGN understands that energy is a key foundation of customer productivity. Therefore, we remain committed to maintaining supply reliability and strengthening gas infrastructure, both for short-term and long-term needs,” Fajriyah said.
She added that ensuring customer energy needs remains a top priority and that mitigation efforts are ongoing in line with corporate governance and HSSE (health, safety, security, and environmental) standards.
While PGN has yet to formally declare an end to the emergency status, the improvement in West Java signals a major step toward full normalization of its gas distribution network.
