China Energy Engineering Group has signed a cooperation agreement with PT PLN Engineering (PLNE), a subsidiary of Indonesia’s state-owned electricity utility PT PLN, to support grid flexibility upgrades and grid stability studies, marking a significant step in the company’s Southeast Asia expansion strategy.

The agreement was signed during a working visit to Jakarta by Lv Zexiang, Chairman of China Energy International, and witnessed by PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo. The agreement aims to deepen China Energy’s engagement in Indonesia’s energy transition, with a focus on renewable energy, energy storage, and power system transformation.

“China Energy is committed to leveraging its full-industry chain capabilities and integrated investment–construction–operation model to support Indonesia’s energy transition. We aim to collaborate in areas such as new energy, energy storage, and power planning,” the company stated on May 12.

Darmawan welcomed the partnership, calling it “a strategic milestone,” and expressed interest in further collaboration across sectors including smart grids, gas turbines, hydropower, and capacity building.

The meetings centered on strengthening cooperation in cross-border power transmission, large-scale solar-plus-storage projects, biomass, waste-to-energy, geothermal, gas turbines, and hydropower development.

Lv also met with Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong, who emphasized the strategic importance of energy in China–Indonesia relations and encouraged China Energy to align its initiatives with Indonesia’s national development plans.

The visit concluded with an internal coordination meeting with China Energy’s subsidiaries operating in Indonesia. Lv urged improved resource alignment, stronger risk management, and enhanced ESG performance to strengthen the company’s competitive position in ASEAN’s energy infrastructure sector.

Executives from several China Energy affiliates participated in the mission, including the Southwest Institute, Guangdong Institute, Tianjin Electric Construction, and Hydrochina International.
