Overview
Coal mining business has increasingly go into hyper competition both in foreign and domestic markets as the world's largest coal user China continue slashing down coal share in its energy mix, while India has set target to ramp up domestic output to meet its local demand. Both China and India tend to decline imported coal.
In the meantime, though the domestic coal demand in Indonesia is projected to hit high record in line with the government's power capacity expansion to build 20 GW coal-fired power plant projects under the country's 35 GW electricity plan, competition among local suppliers to win domestic market would even be tougher given the fact that the local demand is still far below the annual national output.
The planned 20 GW electricity generation project is expected to consume up to 90 million tons of coal annually, in addition to the current the state electricity company PT PLN's coal use of 76 million tons. Indonesia will also enjoy booming construction of infrastructure facilities under President Joko Widodo administration that prompt cement producers and steel companies to upgrade their capacity which would also surge the demand on coal.
Other new promising markets for Indonesian coal are countries in Southeast Asian countries (ASEAN). Indonesian is expected to be major player for ASEAN markets thanks to advantage on location and coal quality compare to other suppliers from Australia, South Africa or even United States.
CoalAsia Magazine and Petromindo would present the 4th Buyer and Producers Meeting to highlight the latest development of Indonesia coal industry, exploring coal supply and demand trend both in overseas and domestic markets in the future. The conference would also explore a number of coal mining companies that have started investing in logistic chain among others from building hauling road to jetty facilities and the potential trend of merger and acquisition of coal mining companies following the government plan to impose moratorium on new mining permit.
The 4th Buyers and Producers that will take place on 27-28 September in Jakarta would add special sessions on Northern Sumatra coal miners and potential development of mine mouth power plant as well as development of coal infrastructure in Sumatra.
What's new in the 4th Buyers and Producers Meeting?
- What is coal demand trend in Indonesia until 2019?
- How is the coal demand and supply development in ASEAN countries? What companies would take most benefit from ASEAN market?
- Prediction of imported coal use in China and India.
